Privacy Policy

The short version

Student names and chart data stay in your browser. We don't collect them, store them on our servers, or sell them. When you share a chart via link, that data is stored temporarily (30 days) and then automatically deleted. That's it.

What we collect

SeatingSnap is designed to collect as little as possible.

  • Chart data (local only):Your seating charts, student names, and desk layouts are stored in your browser's localStorage and IndexedDB. This data never leaves your device during normal use.
  • Shared charts (temporary): If you generate a share link, the chart JSON is stored on our servers for up to 30 days, then automatically deleted. These records are not indexed, not searchable, and not linked to any user identity.
  • Analytics (anonymous): We use privacy-respecting analytics (Plausible or similar) to understand aggregate traffic — page views, referrers, country. No cookies. No fingerprinting. No tracking across sites.

What we don't collect

  • We do not require accounts or collect email addresses for core functionality.
  • We do not track student names, demographics, or any student-level data.
  • We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics with cookies.
  • We do not sell data to any third party, ever.

Student data and FERPA

SeatingSnap is a personal productivity tool for teachers. Student names you enter are processed entirely within your own browser. Because no student data is transmitted to or stored on our servers during normal use, SeatingSnap is designed to be compatible with FERPA requirements for personal teacher use. If your district has specific data governance requirements, the local-only architecture means chart data never leaves your machine.

Your data rights

  • Delete local data:Clear your browser's site data for SeatingSnap at any time to remove all saved charts.
  • Delete shared charts: Shared chart links expire automatically after 30 days. Contact us at the address below to request earlier deletion.

Changes to this policy

If we ever make a material change to how we handle data, we'll update the date at the top of this page and note it prominently. We will never introduce data practices that conflict with the principles above without giving users clear notice.
